Issue Position: Elevate Debate

Issues: Elections

As the People demand that money be removed as the primary and central driver of our Elections, we must legislate a return to the process that was historically at the heart and center of Democracy, which is the process of Public Debate.

In Florida, with 67 Supervisors of Elections managing multi-million dollar budgets, and similar election infrastructure across the country, it seems reasonable to charge these offices with the organizing and administration of a program of Debates, for the benefit of the voters, to be held in public places, and to be filmed and archived to be made publicly accessible through the Internet throughout the Election Cycle, and preserved thereafter as public record.

Candidates should be offered to participate in a minimum number of direct debates with their opponents, at prescribed intervals in the Current Campaign Election Cycle.

Beyond that, any candidate who is challenged to debate by an opponent should be required to accept or face disqualification from the ballot. Every sport has rules, and they should be fairly and evenly applied to all players.

Debate is CRITICAL to Elections. If we are ever able to take the money out of politics, the Democratic process of Debate must return to it's rightful place at the heart and center of our Democracy.

DISCLOSE YOUR AGENDA

If a candidate has a specific legislative agenda and specific proposals, that candidate should absolutely be required to present that specific legislative agenda and proposals in their campaign literature, and on campaign websites that are published to inform the voters. Frankly, voters should be wary of a candidate who presents no agenda.

It should be against the law for a candidate not to disclose what previously planned proposals he or she would bring to the table once elected. I propose that all candidates be required to disclose such intentions on their websites or other principal means they use in their electioneering activities. For that reason and in that spirit, I will continue to update these pages thoughout the campaign cycle, to accurately reflect the intentions of this candidate to the voters.
